ECOVILLAGE @CHITUBU

We are an off-grid permaculture centre that runs on 100% renewable energy. Located on the edge of the city, the centre is suitable for hosting conferences and events while providing a refreshing and enriching experience.

The centre was named Chitubu/ Exaphozini which means ‘spring’ in our native languages (Shona and Ndebele respectively). We strive for the centre to be a resilient spring of hope, growth, knowledge and togetherness!

Beneficiaries Testimonials

“I have started engaging my
neighbors on resilience methods
and I’m glad they are for this.
Bulawayo has a water crisis but
together we will be able to eat what
we would have grown and
conserved water by using grey
water”.

S. Ndhlovu

I was involved in the project Youth and smallholder farmers championing farmer seed systems and agroecology. We managed to create banks for
Traditional maize, sorghum, rapoko, sweet potatoes, Bambara nuts, groundnuts, cowpeas, sweet potatoes and bananas. This brought the communities together to share seeds and we hope that this will continue.

Ngonidzashe Matanga

I enjoyed meeting new friends from different schools at Kids Camp. The food was just wonderful especially the fruits. I enjoyed making the mobile gardens and I am going to share them with my friends and family. I also learnt how to design a school map and painted vision boards. I would like to be involved again.
