Zimbabwean ‘green oasis’ school wins UNESCO Sustainability Education Prize
A ‘whole institution’ approach to sustainable development has turned a primary school in an arid stretch of Zimbabwe into an oasis with a rehabilitated forest, fruit trees, nutrition garden and livestock. The project, which has improved the local environment while generating income, has been awarded the 2017 UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Zimbabwe: Building a Greener Future
The concept of green building has become crucial in the efforts to halt climate change's dangerous impacts. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, existing buildings are responsible for more than 40 percent of the world's cumulative primary energy consumption and for about 25 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions. Building green is driven mostly by environmental, economic and social benefits.
