About the Project

Each School holiday SCOPE Zimbabwe hosts groups of youths and kids for holiday camps. The holiday camps focus on teaching and enhancing permaculture and life skills knowledge.

These gatherings are very useful in giving the children confidence to go and implement permaculture at their schools.

The first Kids Camp held by SCOPE brought together 21 kids 5-13 for the first kids holiday camps from the 15th to the 17th of April 2019.

During the August 2019 school holiday break another group of 19 kids 6-13 and 17 youths 14-21 came together for another gathering.

The camps were themed, “Reimagine food” aiming at helping children to understand the sources of real food, how it can be grown without using synthetic chemicals.

A total of 57 kids and youth drawn from 18 schools both urban and rural, Primary and high school came together for 3 days. 21, 19 and 17 and the children were practically involved in growing food, starting from recycling waste, making compost and using the compost in the gardens. The children also learnt how to make simple dishes, green juices and herbal teas.

The camp theme was coupled with another supporting theme “trash to treasure” which had a focus on getting value out of waste towards producing food.

The activities included recycling of tyres,  turning sacks into kitchen gardens and plastic water and drinking bottles into micro drip irrigation systems.
